We understand that our volunteers have busy lives, so we only ask you to contribute a minimum of 6 hours per month. This time may be spent caring for animals, at offsite adoption events, teaching humane education, or even building maintenance. We have a wide range of needs and embrace the diversity of our volunteers.
1. BE OF AGE
Minors must be a minimum of 8 years old to volunteer. Minor between the ages of 8-15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while volunteering. Both the minor and the parent or guardian must attend the new volunteer orientation and meet the schedule requirement for SSHS.

3. ATTEND VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION
Volunteer orientation is a mandatory meeting that provides an important overview of our organization, volunteer expectation, goals, and rules. Attendance is mandatory. These meeting are held on the first and last Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm.

The South Suburban Humane Society Court-Ordered Community Service Program provides opportunities for individuals who are over the age of 18 that have been court ordered to perform community service of 20 or more hours. Court-ordered community service volunteers will not work directly with the animals, but may assist with other janitorial tasks and projects as available.
These opportunities are available at our shelter location and resale shop. Opportunities for these positions are Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Please visit the shelter and ask to speak to our Volunteer Coordinator for further information. There is a $10 application fee for those offenders without a probation officer.
