Adopting the St. Anne Dogs

posted Feb 17, 2011, 1:07 PM by South Suburban Humane Society

At last...the long awaited information on adopting a St. Anne dog!
Over the course of the last year, several of the dogs have been placed into "foster to forever" homes.  Now that we can adopt them, those homes that have cared for them for the past year have the first opportunity to adopt them.
The first set of dogs that will be available to the general adopting public are the dogs that have not had foster homes but have been at our shelter for the past year.  Nine of the dogs will become available at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 21st.  The process will be "best home" and not "first come, first serve".  Please be prepared with a copy of your lease if you rent, all members of the household including other dogs, and the adoption fee of $200.
The remaining dogs will be available at our Mega Adoption Event partnership with PetSmart the weekend of March 18th, 19th, and 20th.  All applicants at this event will need to be pre-screened.  Please watch the website for more information about pre-screening.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND: These dogs came from a breeding situation and they lived their lives in cages.  It has been extremely difficult to housebreak those that have become housebroken in their foster homes and many of them still are not housebroken.  These dogs are NOT for first-time dog owners and we will be screening all adopters carefully to make sure that these precious dogs go into the best possible forever homes.

Joyful News--One Year Later

posted Feb 12, 2011, 9:31 AM by South Suburban Humane Society   [ updated Feb 16, 2011, 11:06 AM by Katie Dillon ]

Almost one year to the date of the St. Anne 53 Rescue, the South Suburban Humane Society has a wonderful update to share.  On Thursday, the judge denied the plaintiff's motion to extend the injunction barring SSHS from adopting out the St. Anne dogs.

In the next few days, SSHS will send out another update and our next steps.  However, we couldn't wait to share this joyful and important development with all of you.  We are so grateful for all of your support this past year and we so look forward to the moment when all of these dogs are placed in their forever homes.
